The Costumes for the Parade

© Irene. Not for download.

Each samba school has a person in charge of creating the costumes that are going to be used each year. After the prototypes are ready, women from the school community start to sew the costumes. They must always be related to the theme and have the school's colors. Mangueira's colors are green and pink. As you can see in the pictures below, these are the colors that appear the most in the costumes.

Here are costumes used by Mangueira's percussionists during carnival 2002.

The costumes often have bright ornaments to make a beautiful effect in the avenue.

Below is one of the costumes from carnival 2001 being presented at Mangueira.
