The
"Festas Juninas" (June Parties) are mid-winter feasts
in honor of the saints St. John, St. Anthony and St. Peter. They
are celebrated with traditional games, dances and dishes based
mainly on baked sweet potatoes and corn among others. Everything
is decorated with colorful barracks, colored lights and other
ornaments that compose the scenario of the party. There are many
bonfires, colorful balloons and games for children and adults.
These feasts are very popular in the whole country and some cities
in the North-east of Brazil attracts lots of tourists every year. |
